I'm currently a college student with my dads 6 year old desktop.?
I haven't asked my parents for a new computer yet.
I'm currently unemployed I'm looking for a laptop, anyway I'm not sure how I'm going to ask my parents. I would like a "desktop replacement" laptop

Use the 6 year old desktop and the library!
Just use what you have, and go to the library, and get a job and buy your own computer. Your parents will respect you for your efforts and maybe when they see you WORKING for it, they'll pitch in and help.
Sell some of your old stuff on Craigslist or Ebay and tell your parents what you are going to use the money for. Don't ask, but maybe they'll offer to pay half or something. Good luck!
