How do you celebrate birthdays at your house? We always go out to dinner, the choice of restaraunt is the birthday persons choice. For dh, the kids will often make him a cake and they give him gifts and we have a dinner with his mom and sister. My kids are only allowed to order dessert at a restaruant when we are celebrating a birthday.
For the kids we do the dinners (they usually choose fast food) and they usually have a party. DD likes slumber parties, with just a few girls. Last year my oldest had an all night video game party at our house. His friends brought games and systems and we had three tvs going with three systems so everyone could play something at the same time. My 14 year old took a few friends bowling. My big problem is that my oldest and my youngest have the same birthday. Soon one will turn 9 and one will turn 16. Last year my neice was living with me and her birthday was close to my boys, so my youngest one and her did a party together at a park, since they were in the same grade at a small school, they invited the whole grade. I am looking for new, inexpensive ideas. It would be great if I could do one party for both of my boys since thier birthdays are at the end of May which is a busy time, with recitals and concerts and graduations and stuff. |

Out of real young children in our family, the birthday boy/girl gets to pick dinner - usually a favorite home cooked meal for close family celebration on the actual day of, and then another dinner at a restaurant of birthday child's choice where the grandparents, etc. come.
This is with the grown adult children in my family We still do birthdays together after all this time!
