How to handle?
A friend of ours is running for the school board. His grandson that he is raising is a friend of my son's and spends a lot of time with us. This gentleman would like us to help in his campaign. The problem is I don't think he would do a good job. He has not been involved in his grandson's education other than to complain when the boy gets in trouble. He does not attend open house, I actually went and met with his teachers a few times. I don't want to make him mad at us. For now I have told him that I don't have time to be involved. The big issue will come after the election. Dh is sure that no one will vote for him. (he has a reputation, his grandkids run wild most of the time and have gotten into trouble a lot and he usually doesn't seem to care) It's a pretty small town and so if no one votes for him he will know we didn't and be very hurt. Anyway, I hate to lie to him, but am thinking of telling him I was unexpectedly unable to vote, but I don't like to lie, so I am trying to think of another way to deal with it. I am afraid that if he is angry at me I won't be able to help his grandson anymore. Any advice?
