Words and Actions....
Obviously, the loss of a child is one of the most tragic losses I can imagine. Recently, a family friend found out she was going to lose her baby upon her birth, but she decided to carry to term rather than terminate (which normally wouldn't be done but since the baby was 100% certainly not going to survive was an option).
The baby was stillborn last month, as was the funeral. There are three other children in the family. A twelve year old, a four year old, and a two year old. Though I hope no one has experience dealing with this, if you do, how did you? At get togethers, there is an obvious absence....I personally never know what to say or do. Any advice or thoughts are appreciated.

I have always found that a simple, sincere "I am so sorry" is the best thing I can say. If the person wants it I also give them a hug.
I had some friends who lost their little girl at 7 weeks to SIDS. While many people asked how the mother was, no one asked the dad how he was doing. The day I did this he broke down and cried. When he calmed he told me that I was the only person who wanted to know how HE was doing. I learned then and there that it is so important to ask the dad how he is doing also. The men grieve the loss of their baby too.
