My mother in law is the type of person who has everything. She is actually at a stage in her life where she is trying to get rid of stuff. She sent a box to us recently that held my husband's childhood memorabilia. My Father in law died in November and she is preparing herself to go through his stuff. They were married over fifty years. So she is trying to clear out half a century's worth of stuff, so I don't want to give her more stuff, and there is nothing she needs. Lately I have been giving her either food gifts (usually flavored coffees, she is a much better cook than I am) or doing donations to charity in her honor, which she says she loves, but the kids miss seeing her open gifts. So any ideas?

My grandma gives away things from her house for Christmas trying to get rid of stuff so I know the challenge!
One of her favorite presents recently is a calendar that the family makes. It has all the birthdays and anniversaries on it already and each month is a collage of pictures of the family. We usually make them on snapfish.com It's something fun to open and look at (everyone loves to look!) but it doesn't take up too much space. You can start at any month of the year too, so you don't have to wait until next Christmas

I do the calendars that CupcakeQueen mentioned to my parents, in-laws, and grandparents. They love them and it is pretty quick and inexpensive to put them together.
How about gift certificates for or prepaying a service she could use? Housecleaning, lawn service, or something like Netflix or there is a similar service for getting books by mail. (I can't remember the name at the moment.) |

The book one you might be thinking of is "bookswim" (there may be others, but this is the one that I know about).
