Not sure it is really a 'disease' per se, but my son tends to be anemic even eating a well balanced diet. He is actually by far my best eater of my three kids. Anyway, if I give him a daily multivitiman with iron, he gets constipated. So I have been doing the multivitiman along with juice with Fibersure it is to kind of balance things out. Does anyone have a better suggestion? Are there any iron suppliments out there that don't cause constipation? Or is that just the way it is? When I talked to our doctor the other day about it, her best suggestion was to push raisins and prunes. Great, but I can only get a 5 year old to eat so many raisins and prunes!

Anemic body needs iron to make hemoglobin. They can more easily absorb iron from meats than from vegetables or other foods. To treat anemia, doctors may suggest eating more meat-especially red meat, such as beef or liver. Iron can be given as a mineral supplement and is usually combined with multivitamins and other minerals that help the absorption process. Vitamin B12 - used to treat pernicious anemia. Folic Acid / Folate - a form of vitamin B found in foods that is needed to make and maintain new cells. Vitamin C helps the body absorb iron. Good sources of vitamin C are vegetables and fruits, especially citrus fruits.
