Default School fundraisers?

How many fundraisers do your schools have? We have already had several this year. It seems like each club in the Junior high is selling something, and the elementary is selling stuff. It's crazy. The worst was in our old school, where they had the kids all selling junk (mostly wrapping paper and candy and candles) It was all over priced. The bad thing was, they had a big party at the end, in the gym with all sorts of the big bounce houses and inflatable slides and stuff. Only kids who sold 12 or more items could go. I had a friend with three kids. Her husband had been laid off, her office had a no fundraising policy, thier only relatives were in fixed incomes and every kid in the neighborhood was selling the same stuff. So her kids did not get to go to the party. They led all the kids through the gym the day of the party to show them the stuff. I was so mad, that I didn't let my kids go, even though they did sell enough. This school hasn't done anything like that, but there are a lot of fundraisers. What is like where you are?

I know my nephews school just had an auction type fundraiser - I think it helps the kids not be singled out. Everyone brings donations and it's not a competition between whose items make the most money or anything.

I'm really not a fan of the "sales" stuff with the wrapping paper, candy, etc. In my experience things like the chocolate were always easiest because people more knew what they were getting as opposed to things to be delivered later.

I'm equally opposed to the idea of celebrating some kids - though that's the way it was always done at our school too. I think if they made things more team oriented - by class or something - it would give everyone a chance.

I don't know....I understand the necessity of it but there needs to be a better way to accomplish it.
