SAHM of a 4 year old here and this back to school season is making me think about the big K next year. What is some advice for ways that I can use this year to make sure my DC is ready for next year's big start. Has anyone here sent their DC to private K --- is it worth it? THanks

Wow that's a loaded question. It depends on the public school and the private school. It even depends on the teachers. If you are on a tight budget I suggest you start with the public school and see if it meets your needs. If it doesn't you can always seek out private options. You should also look and see if there's a charter in your area. They are publicly funded and can be very good schools. I'm a strong advocate of charter schools!

Very true to the statement listed above^^^^^, i have the same views and feeling, it just all depends, great ways to make sure your preschooler is ready for kindergarten, i learned with my daughter is to visit a good website called abcmouse.com, they have plenty of learning activities on this website and also tracks your childs progress, its free and will let you know when your child is ready, great learning tool, or you can always go the old fashioned way and got to a local pta store and pick up kindergarten activities and books that kindergarten teachers use as lessons and track your childs progress that way. Good luck with everything, and im sure your child will do excellent!!!

Take the extra money that you will be saving with public K... and put it away for college and use it on extra activities for languages, music and art (or sports) and just buy a computer for home....but of course every parent knows what is best for the child.
